Senior Diesel Mechanic are responsible for performing inspections, diagnostic testing, repairs, and maintenance on the vehicle fleet to ensure our trucks are safe and on the road. Often senior technicians handle the more difficult repairs and assist in training less experienced technicians. These technicians must be able to work with minimal direction and may direct the work of others. Shift: 6:00am - 8:00pm M-F Responsibilities of Position: Performs repairs and maintenance of fleet vehicles in a safe manner in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations and company policies. Perform services and repairs to fleet vehicles per company maintenance schedules and/or from driver vehicle inspection reports (DVIR). Diagnoses and troubleshoots mechanical issues and makes necessary repairs, or replacements. Road tests vehicles to diagnose problems or test repairs. Inspects, lubricates, and services vehicles and equipment. Completes adjustments, repairs, and component replacements to vehicles, equipment, and related components. Checks, fills, and/or changes appropriate fluids for all vehicle parts and checks/changes filters. Inspects and/or repairs vehicle support systems, such as electrical, air, and brake systems. Identifies and performs repair to various components and operating systems on the vehicles, equipment, or related components. Performs roadside repairs and adjustments. Ensures all safety devices on vehicles are in good working order. Assists in training less experienced technicians with repairs, maintenance assignments, and adjustments. Performs required administrative duties, when necessary, parts requisitions, warranties, etc. Performs routine housekeeping duties related to tools, materials, shop, and work areas. May assist in other areas of the vehicle maintenance shop as needed. Maintains accurate records (time, maintenance orders, and parts usage) on computer/tablet. May be require to travel for training purposes or business needs. Other duties as assigned. Skills & Abilities Needed for Position: Ability to safely drive service vehicles and vehicles in and out of the service area, as well as a test drive. Good written and verbal communication skills to be able to communicate effectively and professionally with internal and external customers. Must possess the necessary tools to perform assigned tasks. Familiarity with using a computer. Additional skills may be required to perform additional task(s) specific to work location, department, or line of business. Physical Requirements in a Regular workday: Frequently lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling a max of 200lbs. Occasionally up to 75lbs. Continuously working outside in changing temperature, wet/humid conditions. Frequently working in areas of dust, odors, mist, gases, other airborne matter. Frequently sitting/standing/walking in office & landfill environment. Additional Working Conditions/Aspects: Possible exposure to high traffic conditions and/or tight driving areas. Exposure to residential and commercial waste. Ability to work overtime, weekends and/or holidays. Ability to work flexible hours; expected to work nights and weekends as needed. Legally eligible to work in the United States. Valid driver’s license (if applicable). Must successfully complete pre-employment testing. Must be able to read and speak the English language.
