Drill Operator

Job Title: Operator I, II, III Department: Construction Reports To: Construction Manager Employment Status: Hourly (Non-exempt) Primary Location: Galena, IL We will determine salary based on skills and experience in relation to the function of the role, as well as equity to any other employees in the same or similar role. Job Summary: We are looking for a Directional Drill Operator to join our growing team. The Operator will be responsible for operating drilling equipment and/or locating the predetermined path to the exit point. They will operate in a safe manner, avoiding utilities and other obstacles. We are looking for experienced individuals with knowledge of the telecommunications construction industry. Job Responsibilities (Including, but not limited to): •Operate drilling and various other construction equipment in compliance with the company's operating safety policies and procedures. •Drill and/or locate predetermined path to exit point. •Load and unload equipment from vehicles and trailers to assist in support of drilling operations. •Responsible for regular maintenance and care of the assigned heavy equipment, produce any documentation needed for each job, daily communication with managers is a must. •Loads and hauls the machine (if appropriately licensed). •Drives, sets up, and breaks down safely and efficiently. •Operates heavy equipment near active utilities. •Have knowledge of shoring systems and how to use them •Rigging and setting of structures •Along with operating must be willing to assist in other activities such as but not limited to -Placement of conduit in open trenches -Proofing conduits -Potholing existing utilities -Forming and pouring of concrete -Placement of asphalt •Avoids any marked utilities and implements all precautions to prevent utility strikes. •Communicates with supervisors for job details. •Before the equipment is utilized, walks path to ensure all utilities have been located and develops a plan for going above or below each utility or obstacle in the path. •Inspects and maintains job equipment. •Adheres to all company policies, procedures, standards, and safety rules. •Travel overnight to various sites as requested. •Performs other duties as assigned. Required Skills & Qualifications: •High school diploma or equivalent required. •Minimum 1-year prior experience in drilling and using the locating equipment to find any underground utilities. •Must have experience operating heavy equipment near active utilities. •Must have a valid driver's license (unrestricted) and acceptable driving record. •Pass a pre-employment drug test, background check, and MVR. •Must be able to operate the equipment safely. •Read and understand plans and specifications. •Must follow all OSHA, ANSI standards, as well as company rules & regulations. •Knowledge of basic computer skills. •Experience and knowledge of basic shoring methods Physical Demands and Work Environment •Must be able and willing to work outdoors, subject to inclement weather conditions •Must be able to maintain visual and audible contact with other crewman and all moving or stationary persons/vehicles/objects to ensure safe coordination of movement •Must be able to work around heavy equipment and machinery •Must be able to stand or walk for long periods of time •Must be able to bend and lift and carry up to 50 pounds •Routinely requires extended periods of bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting, lifting in awkward positions, standing, and twisting •Must be able to stand, walk, sit or be in other physically demanding positions for long periods of time •Must be able to work while wearing safety boots, safety glasses, hardhat, and any applicable safety gear Desired Qualifications: •Possession of a commercial driver's license (CDL) with tanker endorsement or a willingness to obtain the license. . •DOT Medical Card or a willingness to obtain one. •Experience with Ditch Witch and Vermeer is preferred. An Operator I, II, or III title differentiation lies in the experience and/or skill level of the individual. Operator I Level: T2 Pay Grade: Level 2 Pay Range: TBD Operator II Level: T3 Pay Grade: Level 3 Pay Range: TBD Operator III Level: T4 Pay Grade: Level 4 Pay Range: TBD Requires minimal supervision to operate heavy construction equipment. Possesses and maintains all required Licenses, Certifications, and Registrations. Possesses the necessary KSAs to perform all essential duties and responsibilities for Operators. Requires no supervision to operate heavy construction equipment. Possesses and maintains all required Licenses, Certifications, and Registrations. Proven mastery of all Operator duties and responsibilities. Possesses the ability to train Operator I and Laborer in essential duties and responsibilities. Requires no supervision to operate heavy construction equipment. Possesses and maintains all required Licenses, Certifications, and Registrations. Proven mastery of all Operator duties and responsibilities. Possesses the ability to train Operator I, II, and Laborer in essential duties and responsibilities. Cross trained in at least one other field position (ex. Lineman or Splicer). Possesses and maintains additional OSHA 30 certification.
