Job Description

Primary Purpose: Responsible for assisting the driver workforce with student management issues/concerns to ensure safe and on time delivery. Maintains the highest level of professional communication with campus administrators, fellow employees and our community. Education / Certification: High school diploma or Class B CDL License with P&S endorsements with an acceptable motor vehicle record as determined by the Department of Transportation and the Texas Education Motor vehicle records will be reviewed annually to ensure compliance with DOT and TEA standards. Texas School Bus Driver Safety Training Must be certified or willing to obtain certification by the Texas Association of Pupil Transportation (TAPT) as a Pupil Transportation Official, Supervisor, Specialist or Special Knowledge / Skills: Ability to work effectively with campus principals, staff, students, and Knowledge of bus rules, student handbook/student code of conduct, Board Excellent interpersonal skills and well developed written and verbal communication Basic math skills, detail orientation, mapping and routing Computer literate, preferably in word processing, Access, and Experience / Other Requirements: School bus and / or commercial driving Personal cell phone is required to handle district related business, including after hours, or when away from the office on district business. Required to present and maintain a neat, clean, professional appearance and good personal hygiene at all times. Major Responsibilities and Duties: Acts as the main point of contact for concerns regarding student management issues and/or procedures. Exercises student management through effective and professional Provides guidance to drivers and bus assistants utilizing board policy, student code of conduct, transportation handbook and school bus rules. Reviews student behavior reports to ensure quality of reports by Conducts conferences with parents, students, and drivers on disciplinary Works with administration on campuses to ensure proper disciplinary Reports any difficulties or changes in student needs to the Area Maintains a professional and cooperative attitude with fellow employees, supervisors, students, parents, and school personnel, always promoting teamwork. Provides back-up assistance to Transportation office; answers the phone; operates two- way radio. Performs Bus Driver, Driver Trainer and Dispatching duties as needed. Participates / advises administration about inclement weather conditions that may result in the closing of schools or road hazards. Encourages attendance at all assigned training, safety workshops and field in-service Attends professional development activities/programs to keep abreast of developments and innovations in area of transportation. Responsible for properly maintaining district records, adhering to all policies set forth by the district for records maintenance and learning the records retention schedule for department

Requirements

  • CDL Class B license
  • Clean MVR (Motor Vehicle Record)
  • At least 21 years old (interstate)
  • Valid DOT physical card
