Job Description

VEHICLE TECHNICIAN III Qualifications: High School diploma or GED from a district approved entity preferred. Acceptable driving record as specified by Texas Department of Public Safety for school bus drivers. Possess and maintain a Texas CDL minimum Class B with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements with acceptable driving record as measured by the School Bus Driver's record evaluation criteria or the ability to obtain the CDL within 45 days of employment. Acquire two (2) Texas Association of School Bus Technicians certifications or two (2) Automotive Service excellence (ASE) certifications (Automotive A1-A8, Medium/Heavy Duty Trucks T1-T6, or School Bus S1-S7) or obtain within 18 months of employment. Ability to maintain TASBT certifications or ASE certifications. Ability to maintain Texas school bus driver certification. Possess or ability to obtain certified safety and DOT Inspector certification, preferred. One-year verifiable experience in a transportation related vehicle service, preferred. Own/possess adequate tools to perform assigned duties. Salary/Pay Grade $22.66/HS-9 Salary (based on verifiable job-related experience) as set by the Board of Trustees for the school year 2023-2024 Terms of Employment: 260 days Essential Functions: Perform minor repairs, preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and inspections on all district vehicles in a timely and efficient manner with direct supervision. Assist in completing major repairs. Assit in the use of diagnostic equipment to evaluate mechanical problems in vehicles. Assist with operating all machinery, tools, and equipment as needed. Service vehicles according to established preventive maintenance schedule. Demonstrate process of preventive maintenance and visual inspections to mechanic helpers. Access and utilize printed/electronic service material. Maintain accurate, updated records of time and materials required to perform repairs, service, and preventive maintenance. Operate tools, equipment, and machinery according to prescribed safety procedures. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting, climbing, etc. are followed. Assist in keeping shop, equipment, and tools in safe and efficient operating condition and clean. Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately. Respond to emergency road calls and assist with towing vehicle if necessary. Operate buses and other vehicles as needed. Communicate and interact in a professional manner with co-workers, department personnel, and community members at all times. Regular and reliable attendance is an essential job function. Perform other duties as assigned. Use diagnostic equipment to evaluate mechanical problems in vehicles. Analyze and collect information to diagnose problems with vehicles. Assist with operating all machinery, tools, and equipment as needed. Access and utilize printed/electronic service material. Maintain accurate, updated records of time and materials required to perform repairs, service, and preventive maintenance. Assist in training vehicle technician III. Operate tools, equipment, and machinery according to prescribed safety procedures. Follow and promote safety in the shop by ensuring established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting, climbing, etc. are followed. Keep shop, equipment, and tools in safe and efficient operating condition and clean. Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately. Operate buses and other vehicles as needed. Respond to emergency road calls and tow vehicle if necessary (CDL Class A only). Work irregular hours and respond to after-hours emergency calls as needed. Communicate and interact in a professional manner with co-workers, department personnel, and community members at all times. Regular and reliable attendance is an essential job function. Perform other duties as assigned. MASTER VEHICLE TECHNICIAN Qualifications: High school diploma or GED from a district approved entity preferred. Acceptable driving record as specified by Texas Department of Public Safety for school bus drivers. Possess and maintain a Texas CDL minimum Class B with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements with acceptable driving record as measured by the School Bus Driver's record evaluation criteria. Ability to obtain Class A or the ability to obtain the CDL within 45 days of employment. Minimum of six (6) Texas Association of School Bus Technicians (TASBT) certifications or six (6) ASE Automotive Certifications (Automotive A1-A8 or Medium/Heavy Duty Truck T1-T6 or School Bus S1-S7) or obtain certifications within 18 months of employment. Ability to maintain TASBT certifications or ASE certifications. Ability to maintain Texas school bus driver certification. Certified Texas vehicle safety inspector and DOT inspector. Four (4) years of verifiable work experience as a technician. Own/possess adequate tools to perform assigned duties. Salary/Pay Grade $27.35/HS-11 Salary (based on verifiable job-related experience) as set by the Board of Trustees for the school year 2023-2024 Terms of Employment: 260 days Essential Functions: Use diagnostic equipment to evaluate mechanical, electrical, and electronic problems in vehicles. Assist technicians with evaluating mechanical, electrical, and electronic concerns. Assist in the use of diagnostic equipment as needed. Access and utilize printed/electronic service material. Perform major and minor repairs, preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and inspections on all district vehicles in a safe, timely and efficient manner with minimal supervision. Effectively utilize computerized fleet software. Maintain accurate, updated records of time and materials required to perform repairs, service, and preventive maintenance. Assist with training technicians. Operate tools, equipment, and machinery according to prescribed safety procedures. Follow, promote and model safety in the shop by ensuring established safety procedures and guidelines to perform job duties including lifting, climbing, etc. are followed. Keep shop, equipment, and tools in safe and efficient operating condition and clean. Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately. Respond to emergency road calls and tow vehicle if necessary.
