Job Description: CDL Driver Trainee Job Title: CDL Driver Trainee Duty Days: Scheduled/Probationary Reports to: Transportation Coordinator Pay Grade: 1 Dept/School: Transportation Pay Schedule: Auxiliary Wage/Hour: Non-Exempt Date Revised: 1/2022 Primary Purpose: This position is a limited duration training position in which the incumbent is taught the knowledge and skills necessary to become a district Bus Driver. Within 90 days of entering position, incumbent must either 1) become qualified and be promoted to Bus Driver, or 2) be declared not qualified and employment terminated or assigned a bus monitor position. Education/Certification: Qualifications: Accredited High School Diploma or equivalent (U.S.A. equivalency) preferred At least 21 years of age required Ability to obtain a Texas Commercial Driver’s License (Class A or B) with Passenger (P) and School (S) endorsements within 90 days of employment Must be able to drive a vehicle with Air-Brakes Type 3 driving record that meets the District's standard for operations of motor vehicles Ability to pass the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) alcohol and drug tests and annual physical exam Meet all state (TEA) qualifications for school bus drivers Competency to complete required bus driver safety training Exceptional communications, public relations, and interpersonal skills Must be able to communicate effectively in speaking, reading, and writing - Bilingual preferred Special Knowledge/Skills: Ability to relate to and work well with children Ability to maintain effective pupil behavior management Strong communication and interpersonal skills Ability to lift and assist students when necessary Experience: Prior experience working with students in a school district environment a plus Primary Duties and Responsibilities: Is a positive role model for patrons that support the goals of Waxahachie ISD Works effectively with others Reports to work on time, is available for CDL Training Exhibits good judgment in decision making and problem-solving Operates a bus safely and efficiently Assumes charge of the bus Makes neat, legible and accurate transportation records as required Maintains a clean bus externally and internally Reports maintenance problems to maintenance foreman promptly Demonstrates leadership with proper attendance and punctuality Follows the chain of command as noted in the organizational policy Uses time wisely to ensure productivity and efficiency Supervisory Responsibilities: None.
