Job Description

PURPOSE AND SCOPE: The bus driver will operate a school-owned, 40-passenger bus, traveling with students and staff members to off campus events, and returning them back to campus afterward. The bus driver will report directly to the Athletic Director. Job duties will include physical activities including stooping, kneeling, crouching, standing, travel, lifting items up to 50 pounds, and sitting for extended periods of time. This position requires the ability to effectively communicate via phone and email; ensure that all duties are completed accurately and delivered with high quality and in a timely manner; flexibility, forward thinking and managing deadlines; and rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals and a wide degree of creativity and latitude are expected. All new faculty and staff are provided with a mentoring program. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Travel with students and staff members to and from-off campus events in a safe manner Regularly performs physical activities such stooping, kneeling, crouching, standing, traveling, and sitting for extended periods of time Obeys all traffic laws and enforces all bus regulations and procedures. Administers emergency first aid when it is needed Keeps bus and/or other vehicles as assigned clean and properly fueled Runs assigned schedule efficiently according to the assigned route/trip Performs a pre and post trip inspection of all assigned vehicles Maintains the highest degree of driving safety in varied weather and road conditions Understand and practice the most current defensive driving techniques Reports all incidents/accidents immediately to proper authorities according to Department policy and procedure Keeps up to date on all personal certification requirements required for position Is flexible and performs other duties relating to general job function Performs all duties in a safe and prudent manner as directed Follows diocesan policies and procedures outlined in the employee handbook Performs any other job-related tasks deemed necessary and/or assigned by the principal. Must maintain appropriate grooming and dress as stated in the faculty handbook. The employee must be able to stand for periods of time outside in the heat and cold. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The position will require frequent evening and weekend hours. EVALUATION The performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with the procedures developed by the Diocese of Phoenix and Notre Dame Preparatory under the direction of the Chaplain, Principal, Athletic Director and Director of Finance. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT Twelve-month flexible schedule. The Executive Committee under the guidance of the Diocese of Phoenix establishes base salaries and stipends. A schedule of mandatory days and extra responsibilities is provided prior to the start of a new school year. MINIMUM QUALIFICATION Must be at least 25 years old Must hold a High School Diploma or GED Must hold a valid Arizona CDL Class B with a Passenger, School Bus, and Air Brakes endorsement Must hold or be able to obtain CPR training within 60 days (about 2 months) of hire Have a successful driving record for the past five years Physically able to perform job duties in a safe manner Ability to work flexible hours Must be willing to support Catholic teachings and philosophy Completed Safe Environment Training prior to start date Must sign the Diocesan Code of Conduct and have a valid Arizona Department of Public Safety Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card
