Job Identification Ernst Concrete is seeking dependable and motivated CDL Trainees who are interested in building a long-term career as a Ready-Mix Driver. This position will begin as a Yard Person, where the employee will learn daily plant operations, safety expectations, equipment maintenance, material handling, site cleanliness, and basic ready-mix production support. As training progresses and qualifications are met, the employee will have the opportunity to transition into a Ready-Mix Driver role, delivering ready-mix concrete and associated products to construction sites within our production areas. This is a career-development position for candidates who are safety-conscious, dependable, willing to learn, and interested in obtaining or using a Class B CDL. Description Yard / Plant Responsibilities Support daily operations at the concrete production facility. Maintain a clean ramp and areas beneath loading plant hoppers by shoveling or hosing areas clean. Assist with material handling, dust control, site cleanup, and general plant maintenance. Drain moisture traps, fill oilers, and maintain lubricants in the air compressor. Refuel water trucks, skid steers, loaders, and other equipment as needed. Observe all safety requirements and company policies while operating vehicles and performing daily tasks. Perform pre-trip inspections of equipment in accordance with Ernst standard practices, including checking fluids such as oil and antifreeze. Communicate professionally with dispatchers, plant managers, supervisors, and other team members. Any other duties as assigned by management. Ready-Mix Driver Training Responsibilities As the employee progresses into driver training, responsibilities may include: Learning Department of Transportation pre- and post-trip truck inspection requirements. Learning how to safely operate and maneuver ready-mix trucks in plant yards, job sites, and uneven terrain. Assisting with truck cleaning, refueling, and basic maintenance. Learning how to review delivery tickets, jobsite addresses, directions, and additional products needed for each job. Learning how to add ingredients such as fiber, admixtures, and other products as directed. Learning how to check slumps and mix of concrete. Learning chute placement, chute handling, and proper wash-down procedures. Communicating with dispatch throughout the delivery process. Additional Expectations Must be reliable, punctual, and willing to work flexible hours and shifts. Must be willing and able to work long hours as permitted by DOT and state law, including Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays when needed. Must follow company safety policies, PPE requirements, appearance standards, and management directives. Must promptly report unsafe conditions, accidents, or incidents to a supervisor. Must be able to take orders, instructions, and guidance from management and supervisors. Must maintain a driving record in accordance with Federal and State Motor Carrier regulations and company policy. Additional Expectations Able to work flexible hours and shifts and be reliable and punctual. The employee must also be willing and able to work long hours up to the maximum hours allowed of services permitted by DOT and state law, including but not limited to, Saturday, Sunday, and holidays. Maintain driving record in accordance with Federal and State Motor Carrier regulations and company policy, when CDL certified. Physical Demands Lift 80 pounds, including but not limited to lift chutes and other related CMV/job related items. Able to regularly climb heights of up to 13 feet on a ready-mix truck, using the truck steps and ladder, work on a truck catwalk at an elevated height, in a ready-mix truck you must step down into the truck cab. May be required to climb ladders and catwalks that may be between 6-110 feet above the ground. Ability to climb, balance, kneel, crouch, crawl, and be in confined spaces. Environmental Conditions: Must be able to tolerate, with or without accommodation: Exposure to extreme weather conditions High noise levels and significant vibrations associated with construction equipment and overall job site activities Walking and working of varied rough terrain conditions May be exposed to construction related chemicals, this environment can include, but is not limited to, dust and other typical industrial conditions. Requirements (Review requirements before posting) High School Diploma or equivalent Valid State-Issued Driver’s License with the ability to obtain a CDL permit within 30 days of hire Candidates must be willing and able to undergo a pre-employment background check, MVR overview, physical/DOT and drug/alcohol testing. Ongoing compliance is required. Proficiently read, write, and speak English Ability to understand and read GPS from company issued tablet Excellent verbal and written communication skills with internal and external stakeholders, including: Management, supervisors, and peers People at various social levels Demonstrate the ability to perform job functions in accordance with Company policies and management directives, including adherence to personal appearance standards, safety protocols, and P.P.E. requirements, while promptly reporting any unsafe conditions, accidents, or incidents to your direct report. Must be able to take orders, instructions and guidance from management and supervisors. Proficient basic math skills, e.g. addition, subtraction, fractions, and percentages Maintain driving record in accordance with Federal and State Motor Carrier regulations and company policy. Required to have an active phone with texting or email capabilities to ensure reliable communication during work hours (Note: Usage must comply with the Ernst Cell Phone Policy, Federal, & State regulations and may not interfere with safe operation of company vehicles).
