Job Description

Are you a skilled CDL Class A driver who is ready to take your driving knowledge to the next level? We have an opportunity for a CDL instructor which will allow you to mentor your students by teaching them safety skills and the best practices of the trucking industry. If so, we want you to join our team! Roadmaster Drivers School, a subdivision of Werner Enterprises, Inc. is a nationally accredited educational institution that provides the highest standard of professional training. Roadmaster Drivers School is seeking to hire experienced and highly qualified CDL Class A drivers who have the ability and desire to train the next generation of commercial truck drivers with professionalism so that they can take pride in their work and put safety first. Excellent health, dental and vision insurance Life, AD&D and various other insurance benefits available Paid vacation and sick time 401(k) Retirement Savings Plan with Company Match Employee Stock Purchase Program with Company Match Opportunities for professional advancement The Educational Assistance Program provides Werner and Roadmaster associates the opportunity to participate in college or graduate credit courses Job Responsibilities: Demonstrate assigned driving operations for students on a regular basis Oversee the safe operation and use of equipment when being used by students, ensuring that the company policy and standards are being adhered to Supervise all assigned trainees and complete the necessary documentation for each person, such as student attendance forms and training records Provide in-person daily instruction to students in the following areas: Full Pre-Trip Inspection, Basic Control Skills and Road Driving Qualifications: A valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), with no more than two moving violations in a 12-month period, and/or no more than three moving violations in a 24-month period. Driving records not complying with the foregoing will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Must have a minimum of 3 years over the road or local commercial driving experience, and/or minimum criteria required to obtain instructor licensure within the applicable jurisdiction and meet all other licensure requirements. Must pass and continuously maintain a U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) physical which is issued in accordance with all regulations and recommendations of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, pass an approved DOT drug test and hair follicle drug test (HFT) and agree to random and suspicion-based drug and alcohol screening. Must have the ability to effectively communicate with others using verbal and non-verbal/written skills. Must possess and demonstrate the physical, intellectual and leadership ability to deliver the company’s approved training and curriculum to students in the areas of classroom, full pre-trip inspection, basic control skills and road driving. Must successfully complete all required new hire onboarding and training in a timely manner, as well as continuing education as required by the company.

Requirements

  • CDL Class A license
  • 3_plus of driving experience
  • Clean MVR (Motor Vehicle Record)
  • At least 21 years old (interstate)
  • Valid DOT physical card

About Over-the-Road (OTR) Trucking

A Day in the Life

A typical day as an OTR driver begins before sunrise with a walk-around pre-trip inspection of your truck and trailer. You plan your route, check weather and traffic conditions, and hit the road. Over the course of 10 to 11 hours of driving, you cover several hundred miles, managing fuel stops and rest breaks within your Hours of Service limits. Communication with dispatch keeps your schedule on track, and at the end of the day you find a truck stop, log your hours, and rest up for tomorrow.
